If there was ever a food scene to be filled in Luton, it is certainly the healthy one.
I don’t know about you but I find it so hard to find a healthy lunchtime meal in town. When you’re overloaded with fried chicken shop choices, it’s not always easy!
I’ve always wished, hoped and prayed that a healthy café would open and solve all of my lunchtime struggles.
And thankfully, that café is finally here!
Not only does it provide us with the much needed wholesome food selection we’ve all been waiting for, but it is by far the most Instagrammable café to ever grace our town. With pink flower walls, velvet jade green cushions, I’m absolutely all over it! It’s like someone just crept into my brain and noted everything I could ever wish for in a foodie spot.
So I’d already seen the interior (having stalked their Instagram for weeks prior to the big opening), but did it live up to my foodie expectations?
Well, there was only one way to find out.
Cue the 6am alarm for a pre-work breakfast….
Let’s start with the location shall we? Well it was super easy to find, being just across the road from the end of the station bridge. I mean parking is always a little trickier over that side of town, but if you’re in the town centre car parks you’ll have no problem walking the short distance to 50 Nine.
At first glance, the building looks great and although it was raining, I can certainly see myself sipping a smoothie under a parasol on a sunny day in the near future. For now we sat inside and seriously appreciated the stylish interior.
These pictures certainly don’t do it enough justice, it really is something special inside.
One of my first thoughts was how big the menus were. A big menu always means one thing, lots of choices. There was something for everyone, from pancakes, egg dishes, fruit, quinoa and even lunch and dinner options too.
I started the morning with the ‘Exotic Juice’ – a delicious blend of pineapple, apple, lime and mint. The portion size was great and the glass was filled with just the right amount of ice, that it was well worth the money.
Steven ordered the 50 Nine Breakfast whilst I had the Jordan Special – a combination of smoked salmon, cream cheese, avocado and poached eggs on sour dough toast. Literally my idea of breakfast heaven!
I just love sour dough bread, you really can’t beat it and the entire thing was so delicious. Steven really enjoyed his too, but of course this was going to beat his pathetic bowl of Frosties.
The level of service was just perfect for me. I don’t like to be hassled and asked how everything is whilst I have my gob full of food, but that’s just my preference. It was just the right amount of attentiveness and asking if we needed sauce etc. I popped to the toilet and came back a few minutes later and the plates were cleared from the table.
I hope these guys do well as it really does fill the missing gap on the Luton food scene. I’m so excited to try more dishes but being the predictable unadventurous food person I am, I’ll probably end up having the same every time. That reminds me – I must get a little cake from the fresh counter next time – the macaroons looked particularly delicious!
