Also worth noting, the chalk quarry is not accessible and is a fully working chalk extraction site which is on private land. There is a wired fenced around the entire site, where you can enjoy views from whilst remaining on the public footpaths.
Terrain Info: Some hills, steep steps and woodland. Not suitable for pushchairs.
• Super easy route to follow!
• Strolls through beautiful woodland.
• Fantastic views over Kensworth Quarry.
Starting at Mentmore Park Car Park (LU6 3NW), head into the park and walk up the hill to the right hand side. In the corner of the park leads onto a mud path, take this path right.
Alternatively, you can also park at the Dunstable Downs Car Park and take the first left down Isle of Wight Lane, and join the route from photo 3.
Keep following the path, passing through the kissing gate.
After sometime you will eventually reach a road, where a public footpath waymarker points right. Ignore this sign, and head straight across the road into the woods. (If you are joining the route from the Dunstable Downs Car Park, this footpath will be on your right opposite the wooden stairs).
Follow the path through the woods and out onto the field, heading right.
Keep following the path to the next set of woodlands, until you reach a steep set of stairs. Go straight up the stairs and continue on the path.
Enjoy the views of the working quarry below.
Continue on the path until you reach the big grass field and head down the hill in north easterly direction, heading around the trees and into Mentmore Park.
